"Hereditary" Movie Review

Some horror movies resort to series of cheap jump scares for their entertainment. Some rely on overbearing barrages of violence. But a select few hone the art of building and maintaining high levels of tension and unpredictability. Hereditary is one of those movies, repeatedly slow-simmering up to frightening fever pitches as it conveys its bizarre demonic tale.

We've seen plenty of ghost stories and demonic possession films, but what distinguishes Hereditary is its delivery. The film is heavy on narrative, spending a lot of time on dialogue between the family over the tragedies they have to cope with. But the more audiences learn about the characters, the more frightening the movie gets, and that's what makes it so engaging. Not to mention the spine-tingling performance given by Toni Collette.

But something I can't stress enough is how bizarre Hereditary can get. Those going into this movie hoping for a horror house ride will likely get more than they bargained for. If you think your family's crazy, just wait until you experience the family in Hereditary.
