ForReel Box Office Summary - MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: FALLOUT, TEEN TITANS GO! TO THE MOVIES

ForReel Box Office Summary - MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: FALLOUT, TEEN TITANS GO! TO THE MOVIES

Paramount has released it's sixth installment to the Mission Impossible franchise, and the result is the fallout of all their good intentions; spot number 1 at the box office and the biggest opening in the franchise. Meanwhile, Teen Titans GO! to the Movies under-performs in its opening weekend, but still proves to be profitable as Mama Mia, Equalizer, and Hotel Transylvania sequels fill in the top spots above it.

With a $61.5 million opening weekend, Mission Impossible: Fallout steals the top spot at the box office and becomes the highest opening M:I movie yet. While demand for Tom Cruise doing crazy stunts seems to be at an all-time high, demand for young, witty, immature sidekicks seems to be middling as Teen Titans GO! to the Movies lands at number 5 barely cracks $10 million on it's first weekend, well below the industry's mid-teen estimates and foiling all "teen"-related puns. But, with a production budget of only $10 million, costs for making the film are pretty much covered, and any future earnings go toward the relatively small marketing costs and profit margin.

Here's how the top five break down:

1) Mission Impossible: Fallout | $61.5 million

2) Mama Mia! Here We Go Again | $15 million (estimate) | $70.4 million

3) Equalizer 2 | $14 million (estimate) | $64.2 million

4) Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation | $12.3 million | $119.2 million

5) Teen Titans GO! to the Movies | $10.5 million

Next weekend, weekend will be a wild showdown as 4 new movies hit theaters: young adult sci-fi thriller The Darkest Minds, live action adaptation of Winnie the Pooh characters Disney's Christopher Robin, Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon lead action comedy The Spy Who Dumped Me, and documentary Death of a Nation. While a steep drop for Teen Titans seems inevitable, we'll see whether new this variety will divert moviegoers from Fallout

Our question for you is this: what do you think lead to Teen Titans GO! performing so poorly on opening weekend? Answer in the comments!
